Stevenage Boss Confident Ahead Of League Debut

Category: Teams: UEFA: England: Stevenage

Stevenage fans will be amongst the most excited football followers in the country as the new season approaches, after promotion last season ensured that 2010/2011 would mark their debut in the football league.

Whilst Stevenage v Macclesfield may lack the glamour of a Premier League tie for those who bet on League Two matches, it is a game that is sure to be well attended by eager Stevenage fans, who must be feeling like Christmas has come early as they look forward to their league debut, as well as a thrilling tie in the first round of the Carling Cup against last year's FA Cup finalists, Pompey.

Following pre-season success against Championship side Millwall, Boro fans should now be able to join manager Graham Westley in judging his side to be nearly ready for their first season in the football league. This assessment has been helped by the addition of four new signings arriving at Broadhall Way, as well as key midfielder Michael Bostwick signing a new two-year deal with the Boro. Westley has argued that the club's ability to extend Bostwick’s deal is a significant indicator of the passion and dedication shown consistently by the current club chairman, who reportedly beat competition from bigger clubs to secure the deal.

As well as dedication to improving the current squad, Boro fans will also have been pleased to see that the club has been celebrating its on field success by looking to develop talent for the future, with the establishment of a new centre of excellence.

Despite the fact they are unlikely to be up there with the favourite odds to win League One next summer after promotion, Boro fans will be safe in the knowledge that their club is certainly heading in the right direction, both on and off the pitch.
