An Introduction To Soccer Betting

Betting on soccer is – whether you like it or not – betting on the most
popular sport in the world. There is certainly money in soccer betting and
more and more serious US based bettors are starting to discover this
market. The internet has made it possible for these guys to pick up odds and
lines and to do their handicapping from the comfort of their own home, on a
game which is played thousands of miles away, in some European soccer
stadium. If you’re thinking about taking up soccer betting yourself, you’ll
find this small list of soccer bet types that I’ve compiled rather
interesting.

The most popular soccer betting market is still the 1x2 or win-draw-win
market. Remember, just because it’s the most popular, it doesn’t mean this
is where your should get your money into the middle. The Win-Draw-Win means
every player gets the chance to bet on 3 possible outcomes on each match: on
the favorite, on the underdog or on a draw. The bottom line is however that
out of the 3 possible outcomes, 2 work in the bookie’s favor while only one
gives the bettor the win. It’s not really difficult to understand how this
betting market works. The bookie uses different return rates on player
investments to balance such 1x2 match-ups.

One step up from the 1x2 are the Asian handicap bets. Asian handicaps do
away with one of the options available in 1x2s, the draw. Players only have
to bet on one team or the other, and the bookie balances the match-up by
giving one of the teams (the favorite) a goal handicap. If team B gets a 2
goal handicap, from the bettor’s perspective, that means team B only wins if
it scores at least 3 goals. The whole setup works just like spread betting
does on NFL or NBA games.

Single bets are the most basic ones. A single means you only have to get one
event right (whether it’s an Asian handicap or a 1x2 bet), and if you do,
you win.

The Double is made up of two separate bets basically. In order for the
bettor to win, he must win both bets. Suppose he bets on the Czech Republic
beating Ukraine and on Italy beating France. If he only gets one of those
bets right, he loses the bet. If he wins both of them, he wins.

Multiples are bets made on several matches. Multiples can carry some pretty
fabulous returns, but the problem is that the odds they feature are
extremely steep ones too. One can’t really use multiples with the goal of
making money. Multiples are mostly used by recreational bettors who look to
generate action on a whole bunch of games in order to enhance the viewing
pleasure.

Trebles are multiples too, they work the same way doubles and multiples do,
with the only difference that they are bets made on exactly 3 different
games.

Accumulators are multiples which include at least 4 bets. Betting on the
total (over/under) is possible in soccer betting too. Suppose the goal line
is set for 2.5. You can choose to bet on over or under on it. The exact
score of the game is something you can also bet on.

There are a whole bunch of special bets available too. You can wager on
which team scores the first goal and even on which player scores first. You
can also bet on both teams to win the match (you only lose if the game ends
in a draw). The last goal scorer can also be bet on, as well as the any time
goal scorer.
