League One side MK Dons won an epic encounter against new Premier League side Blackpool in a seven goal thriller at the Stadium MK.
And they have now seen their chances in the Carling Cup betting significantly improve by taking such a big scalp.
The Dons shot out of the traps when Sam Baldock fired the hosts into the lead in the first minute with an 18 yard finish.
The lead lasted until seven minutes after half time when Blackpool’s veteran striker Brett Ormerod grabbed an equaliser with a header from six yards.
The MK Dons instantly hit back with Jermaine Easter scoring twice in two minutes to give his side the lead again. The goals kept flowing, with new Blackpool signing Ludovic Sylvestre scoring a somewhat fortuitous free-kick to make it four goals in six minutes and to hand his side a lifeline.
Blackpool then equalised with the game nearing an end when substitute Charlie Adam smashed home a penalty to take the match into extra-time after a melee in the box.
However, the Dons won the game when, with 10 minutes of extra time left, Easter’s clever play set-up substitute Lewis Guy to finish and seal his side’s place in the third round.
It was a great result for the Dons, who were beaten 4-1 at the weekend by Carlisle in the league, and who were also missing at least three key players in Aaron Wilbraham, Jude Stirling and Pele.
With it being made clear that his squad needs strengthening, Blackpool boss Ian Holloway missed the match to scout potential new signings.
After being put out of this year’s Carling Cup to a team two leagues below them, it’s fair to say that Blackpool need some new faces, particularly if they wish to challenge in the Premier League and FA Cup this season. Checking the League and FA Cup betting, their chances are not looking favourable. |
