England captain Steven Gerrard reckons his side has "the quality" to go all the win and win the World Cup this summer despite their faltering displays to date.
Fabio Capello's men drew their first two games of the tournament against the USA and Algeria, failing to really impress in either of them.
They only made it through into the last 16 courtesy of a Jermain Defoe goal to beat Slovenia. However, Landon Donovan's late winner for the USA in their game ensured England went through as Group C runners-up and thus face a trickier route to the final. The Three Lions' World Cup 2010 betting certainly suggests they have a tough task on their hands.
England will face Group D winners Germany on Sunday, but Gerrard claims his side are more than capable of beating their old rivals - though if they go through they could face Diego Maradona's Argentina in the next stage.
The Liverpool midfielder claims England performed well "under pressure" to make it through into the knockout stages and were "spot on" in getting the three points against Slovenia.
"All games are difficult but it's about us now. If we turn up and play close to our potential we're a match for anyone," Gerrard said.
"If we can deliver what he [Fabio Capello] is asking we will be difficult to beat like we were against Slovenia. We have the quality to win football matches."
The football betting odds suggest the Three Lions are in with a chance of winning their last 16 tie, and England could be boosted for the Germany clash by the return to fitness of Spurs defender Ledley King.
He was taken off injured during the disappointing draw with the USA and has not played since, but he has returned to training and could appear in the last 16 clash.
If King does not however return against Germany, he would be back for a potential quarter-final meeting with either Argentina or Mexico in Cape Town. |
