West Brom Looking At Former Pompey Striker

West Bromwich Albion have admitted they would be interested in having former Portsmouth striker Frederic Piquionne to fire the goals to help them avoid Premier League relegation.

The Lyon player scored ten goals on loan at Fratton Park last season, helping Portsmouth to the FA Cup final in the process.

The 31-year-old has returned to France but there are a number of clubs said to be interested in bringing him back to the Premier League, including Albion and West Ham.

Albion have a history of being a yo-yo team and will need to bolster their options if they are to avoid dropping straight back down to the Championship, although the Premier League 2010/11 betting suggests this is likely to happen.

Dan Ashworth, the club's sporting and technical director, confirmed they were interested in the French striker.

"Frederic has got a couple of years left at Lyon and we've made an inquiry but there is no firm commitment," he said.

"He is a player who has been linked with three or four clubs so he's not short of options."

West Brom have been given the toughest possible start to their new life in the Premier League as they were drawn to play away at Premier League champions Chelsea on the first day of the season, a game the football betting will give them little chance of winning.

Following this, Roberto Di Matteo's side play Sunderland at the Hawthorns on August 21st.
